Condensation forms when warm, humid air touches a cold surface. The air cools, it can no longer hold all its moisture, and the water turns back into droplets. In a van the coldest surfaces are usually the windows, which is why they mist up and run first.
A van is a small, well-sealed space, and daily life puts a lot of moisture into the air: breathing overnight, cooking, boiling a kettle, drying wet coats. With two or more people sleeping inside, humidity rises quickly.
Left unchecked, condensation leads to musty smells, mould on soft furnishings and damp in the conversion itself. The fix combines warmer surfaces and steady ventilation. Start with double-glazed campervan windows.
Does double glazing stop campervan window condensation?
Double glazing greatly reduces condensation on the window itself, but it cannot remove moisture from the van on its own. A double-glazed window has two panes with an air gap between them. That trapped air slows the transfer of heat to the outside.
With single glazing, the one pane sits close to the outside temperature and collects water readily. With double glazing, the inner pane is shielded from the cold and stays noticeably warmer, so the surrounding air is far less likely to reach the point where moisture condenses.
Moisture still looks for the coldest surface it can find. If a metal panel or corner is poorly insulated, condensation may simply appear there instead. That is why glazing, insulation and ventilation work together.
Which EuroVan windows are double-glazed?
Every EuroVan window is double-glazed except the VanSlide, which is single-glazed acrylic. If condensation is your main concern, choose a double-glazed model.

Why ventilation matters as much as double glazing
Ventilation is the other half of the answer: fresh air carries the moisture you produce out of the van before it reaches a cold surface. Sealing everything shut on a cold night traps all that water inside.
The simplest solution is a roof window with permanent ventilation. Warm, moist air rises and escapes through the highest point of the van, and air keeps moving even with the roof window closed. Many approval bodies also require permanent ventilation on a converted vehicle.

How can your side windows help ventilate at night?
Leave a side window slightly open and pair it with a roof vent: the cross-flow carries moist air out of the van. The mosquito net stays in place, so no insects get in.
- Push-out windows: the VanShade and VanLight have three opening positions, and the tilted pane keeps light rain out.
- Sliding windows: the VanSlide+ central lock keeps the window ajar while you are away from the van.
- Rear doors: a push-out window in each rear door gives cross-ventilation over the bed.

Should you close the blinds at night?
Yes, for privacy and comfort, but keep some airflow. Every EuroVan window with an interior frame comes with a blackout blind and mosquito net. The pleated blind on our separate inner frame also adds light thermal insulation.
A closed blind with no ventilation can trap moist air against the pane behind it. Close the blind, keep a window or roof vent open slightly, and check the sill in the morning.
Where else does condensation form in a van?
Once the windows are double-glazed, condensation moves to the next coldest surface. Check these spots on a cold morning:
- Bare metal ribs and pillars that were left uninsulated behind the lining.
- The cab, where the factory windscreen and cab windows are not double-glazed.
- Corners behind furniture, where air does not circulate.
- Around the window opening, if the insulation stops short of the cut-out.
Insulate right up to the wooden batten frame around each window before fitting the lining, and keep a gap behind cupboards so air can move. A thermal screen on the cab windows also helps on cold nights.
Daily habits that keep a campervan dry
Your routine matters as much as your windows. A few simple habits keep condensation under control:
- Ventilate deliberately: crack a window and open a roof vent, especially overnight and while cooking.
- Manage cooking steam: use lids on pans and ventilate while you cook.
- Keep wet kit out: store wet coats, boots and towels in an awning or a sealed bag.
- Wipe down in the morning: a quick wipe removes water before it soaks into cushions and trim.
- Insulate the whole van: walls, floor and roof, so moisture finds fewer cold surfaces.
Which windows should you choose for a warm, dry van?
Choose double-glazed windows for every opening, a light or dark tint to suit each room, and at least one roof window with permanent ventilation. Together they remove the biggest cold surface in the van and give the moisture a way out.
