Frequently asked questions

Is a 12V compressor fridge better than an absorption fridge in a campervan?
On 12 V, yes: a compressor fridge uses far less power, cools in hot weather and does not need to be level or run on gas. Absorption fridges make sense mainly on gas without a large battery.

How much power does a 12V campervan fridge use?
Most VanCool fridges are listed at 22 to 35 W in normal use, about 2 to 3 A on 12 V while the compressor runs.

Can I run the fridge on 230V?
Yes, with our 230V to 12V converter (10 A / 180 W), compatible with the whole VanCool range.

Which size fridge do I need?
Start from your cabinet: note height, width and depth and keep space behind for ventilation (at least 10 cm on DCR models), then pick the largest model that fits.

Can a VanCool replace my old Dometic or Thetford fridge?
Several models are made for it: the 90 L RCN and 90 L DCR replace the Dometic RC 10.4 and Thetford T2090, the SVR keeps the footprint of Dometic compressor fridges, and the 140, 150 and 170 L replace built-in three-way fridges.
