Choose by cut-out first, then by roof thickness, then by function. The cut-out is the hole in your roof: once it is cut, it decides which skylights can ever go there. On a caravan or motorhome, it is already there, so the right skylight is simply one made for that opening.
- Cut-out size: 400 × 400 mm is the most common size on converted vans; 700 × 500 and 960 × 655 mm are the large standard formats. Smaller fans use 280 × 280 or 360 × 360 mm.
- Roof thickness: each model clamps a given range, for example 28 to 70 mm for the STYLE 40x40 or 27 to 80 mm for the VANVENT 3.0.
- Function: daylight, a 12 V fan, or permanent ventilation that keeps air moving with the skylight closed.
- Comfort: blackout blind, mosquito net and LED lighting, built in or not.
- Height above the roof: from 6 cm (PANORAMA SLIM) to about 12 cm for most roof windows.

Best skylight for a 400 x 400 mm cut-out
For a 400 × 400 mm cut-out (the Mini Heki format), the STYLE 40x40 is our all-round choice: double acrylic glazing, a magnetic blackout blind and mosquito net, and an optional 12/24 V LED frame. It mounts directly on flat or corrugated roofs from 28 to 70 mm and opens up to 50°.
Take the version with 100 cm² permanent ventilation if you want air to keep flowing with the window closed; take the fully closing version if your conversion already has its airflow elsewhere. The SKYDOME 40x40 is the simplest option: a tinted dome with an integrated mosquito net and internal lock, nothing to wire. For a fan in the same hole, see the section on fans below.

Best large skylight: 700 x 500 and 960 x 655 mm
For a large opening, choose the PANORAMA SLIM 3 LED if height matters, and the PANORAMA LED 50x70 if you want a night-ventilation position. Both cover the Midi Heki format (700 × 500 mm); only the PANORAMA SLIM also comes in the Heki 2 format (960 × 655 mm).
- PANORAMA SLIM 3 LED: only 6 cm above the roof, aluminium frame, stainless steel hinges, opening up to 160° when parked. Four sizes, 140 to 226 cm² permanent ventilation depending on size, roof 25 to 70 mm.
- PANORAMA LED 50x70: about 12 cm above the roof, 150 cm² permanent ventilation, a 5° position held by twin gas struts, roof 25 to 75 mm (more with a spacer). Clear or light-grey GREY glazing.

Best campervan skylight with a fan
The VANVENT 3.0 is our most complete fan: a brushless 12 V motor with 10 speeds, a thermostat, a radio remote (about 30 m) and LED, blind and mosquito net built in. The dome stays sealed, so it keeps ventilating in the rain and while you drive. It fits a 400 × 400 mm cut-out on roofs from 27 to 80 mm, in grey, black or white.
The EuroVan 40x40 is the simpler choice for the same cut-out: a reversible 12 V fan at 1200 RPM that extracts stale air or draws fresh air in, usable in the rain with the lid closed. The EuroVan 36x36 does the same for a shorter roofline, and the EuroVan 28x28 adds an LED ceiling light in the smallest cut-out. Above a kitchen or shower, the POWER VENT combines a reversible fan with 70 cm² permanent ventilation.

Skylight with or without permanent ventilation?
Choose permanent ventilation if you want a constant airflow against condensation, even with the skylight shut. It is a small, always-open passage in the frame: 100 cm² on the STYLE 40x40 ventilated version, 150 cm² on the PANORAMA LED 50x70 and 140 to 226 cm² on the PANORAMA SLIM 3 LED.
A fully closing skylight suits a conversion that already has its airflow elsewhere, for example a POWER VENT or a ventilated window. Permanent ventilation is often asked for when a conversion is approved, so check your national rules (DVLA, TÜV or RDW) before you decide.
Is there a difference between a rooflight and a skylight?
No: rooflight, skylight, roof window and roof light all mean the same opening in the roof. In practice, sellers tend to say roof window for an opening, double-glazed unit with a blind, and roof vent for a smaller unit built mainly for airflow, often with a 12 V fan.
What can you use instead of a skylight? If you mainly want air, a 12 V roof vent fan in a smaller cut-out does the job. If you mainly want daylight without wiring, a dome such as the SKYDOME 40x40 is the simplest option.
Replacing a motorhome or caravan skylight
To replace a cracked, yellowed or leaking motorhome skylight, keep the same cut-out and choose a new unit made for it. Measure the opening in the roof, not the outer frame of the old skylight: the frame is always larger than the hole.
- 400 × 400 mm: STYLE 40x40, EuroVan 40x40 or VANVENT 3.0.
- 700 × 500 mm: PANORAMA SLIM 3 LED or PANORAMA LED 50x70.
- 960 × 655 mm: PANORAMA SLIM 3 LED.

How hard is it to fit a campervan skylight?
Fitting a skylight is a realistic DIY job with a jigsaw, a cordless drill/driver and the right sealant. Our roof windows mount directly on flat or corrugated roofs; on corrugated panels, SikaLastomer 831E butyl tape fills the ridges. Plan two people to lower a PANORAMA into the cut-out, and about two hours for a first VANVENT fit.
